THE LABOURATORY
The Labouratory is a defined space in which experiments take place with objects that are used to perform work on a(n) (almost) daily basis; a space in which the workplace can be examined.

It is about working in a rhythm, a rhythm that never stops. As an on-going pattern within a time-dominated society. It might make the workplace become superficial.

All these workplaces are very personal, while at the same time there are endless similarities.

We make it our own by having some nice plants, perhaps a second screen, some candles even. But in the end there are the same objects, in the same position, over and over again. Objects that are neutral and replaceable.

The Labouratory could alienate you from the workspace, but it could also make you feel part of the collective. Can you spot your own desk?

The technology on our desks is waiting for us to be used, the technology we invented ourselves. However human themselves are also commandeered by technology, making us think that everything is meant to be used, including ourselves, that we have become a human resource. Is the human in control or is the technology in control of us?

The Labouratory knows irony as well. Don't take your workplace too seriously!

MAKING PUBLIC

All owners of the desks received The Labouratory video. As well as two inspirators for the video, Silvio Lorusso (author of the book describing the entreprecariat) and Marie Davidson (singer of the song).

PRESENTATION

During the last week of the minor, I presented my project to the rest of the minor students. I started by asking them to think of a work that describes their feeling about their workplace. The following answers were given.
